This session will examine the success of the Florida Supportive Housing Coalition - a collaborative network of advocacy and member organizations, affordable and supportive housing developers, service providers, homeless coalitions, local governments, and other aligned businesses and individuals. By embracing housing as a nonpartisan issue and leveraging evidence-based best practices, the coalition educated legislators across a politically nuanced state and persuaded them to commit to innovative supportive housing initiatives, including dedicated dollars for the development of supportive housing. This session will discuss the importance of consistent and sustainable advocacy at both the executive, legislative, and administrative levels, stakeholder engagement, and focus groups' influence on developing policy priorities. This session will offer a roadmap for other states facing similar political challenges, demonstrating how to build powerful coalitions to drive supportive housing policy change.
