Tarvaris McCoy, a Richmond, VA native and 2001 graduate of Richmond Community High School, is a dedicated community developer with a strong focus on social, economic, and environmental sustainability. His career began with mentoring and coaching youth in Central Virginia and New River Valley communities, sparking his passion for community empowerment. With degrees in Business Information Technology, Business Management, and Sociology from Virginia Tech, and a Master’s in Urban and Regional Planning (Community Revitalization) from Virginia Commonwealth University, Tarvaris has built a broad foundation for his work in housing and community development.

As founder of The Real McCoy Companies, he collaborates with developers, housing agencies, and local governments to create sustainable development strategies. Tarvaris’s impact spans more than 1,000 housing units developed for low-income communities and includes expertise in federal programs such as the Uniform Relocation Act (URA) and Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD), facilitating public housing transformations. His work often integrates programs like LIHTC, HOME Funds, Housing Trust Funds, and private equity to support affordable housing from Maryland to Florida.

Tarvaris emphasizes whole-community health, financial empowerment for residents, and policy shifts that support equitable redevelopment. In his role as a real estate professional, he has served as a salesperson and associate broker, connecting homeowners, developers, and investors through Insight Realty Consultants LLC. Here, he trains new real estate professionals to address housing market needs effectively.
